Welcome to my New Blog!

Hi Guys and Gals! I'm so excited to be starting this new adventure with you all! My new lifestyle blog will feature talk about travel,...

Traveling Light

London! What an amazing city! Most people can expect grey skies, rainy days, and a bit of a breeze, but as you can see - we brought our California weather with us! I traveled with my mom and her friends to see this amazing city and country and had a fantastic time.

This street is in the Covent Garden area, Central London. We stayed at a charming Air BnB in Hackey Wick, a formerly run-down district, now full of craft beer breweries and artsy pizza joints, and home to many artists. The region may scare the faint of heart, as there is graffiti on every available space through the neighborhood, but a giant apartment complex is being built, which I'm sure will rent for thousands of pounds per month (or sell for damned near a million). It was a great area, with easy access to the Tube.

If you're planning a visit, I highly recommend checking the weather reports before you go. Like San Francisco (my home base), the weather can drastically change day to day, and they can experience micro-climates.

What I wish I'd brought:

A Hoodie! I was FREEZING on the plane and on the Stonehenge bus. I tried to make sure my clothes were nice enough for any excursions, but I decided to forgo the hoodie, and instead brought a light rain slicker and a denim jacket and pashmina scarf. I think I only used the scarf on the plane and maybe for one day in the city. This was not typical weather for London. I never used the rain slicker, but I would have been glad to have it if it did rain, as it often does.

Pantyhose! I couldn't believe how many women wore pantyhose on the regular. They wear nice nylons/pantyhose/tights with sneakers -- this is just not typically seen in California. Maybe our weather is just too warm, but I just rarely see women wear them unless it's a dress code requirement here. Bring some dark tights!

More dresses... I packed two dressed and one maxi skirt for the trip, but decided to abandon one shorter dress in order to pack a little lighter for the trip. I think I could have squeezed it in, and maybe not have packed the maxi -- it wasn't as flattering as I'd hoped and it kept getting stuck on things when I walked... Oh, well.

Here's what I did bring with me for a ten day trip. Everything fit in one carry on and attachable backpack, including my big camera, toiletries, and make-up.
  • One pair of boat shoes
  • One pair of sandals
  • Denim Jacket
  • Rainbow pashmina
  • Denim shorts
  • Denim skinny jeans
  • White cropped pants
  • Blue maxi skirt
  • White t-shirt (Joie de Vivre)
  • Cream blouse/shell
  • Grey and white tank tops for layering
  • Coral colored t-shirt
  • Yellow blouse
  • Chambray blouse
  • Blue cardigan
  • White cardigan
  • Yellow dress that can be dressed Up or Down
  • Two belts - red and pink
  • Floral scarf
  • Rainjacket/windbreaker
  • Big purse
  • Crossbody bag
  • Backpack

I used a simple grid to plan my outfits and eliminate what I didn't need. I went to the trouble of typing in my stuff and color coding it, but you can easily make it with markers and have some fun!
